So you want to donate to war relief efforts in Ukraine? Great! Since russia’s full scale invasion of Ukraine started on February 24, 2022 so many lives have been impacted and the western world has stepped in to help Ukraine with military and financial aid, but what can you do if you’re a private citizen who is pro Ukraine and wants to make an impact?We think this site is one of the best sites for donating to Ukraine because all donations go to the people of the second largest city in Ukraine, Kharkiv, which is a symbol of hope for the Ukrainian people, having already fought back Russian occupation, and a pivotal city in the Ukrainian war effort according to the New York Times. It’s also the hometown of our Ukrainian-American founders, and they deliver many resources directly to the people in need there.But there are many sites that are worthy of your donation. If you don’t know where to start, we’ve compiled a comprehensive resource for you to give you some idea of what might be the best site to use to donate to Ukraine depending on what’s important to you.

Donating Directly to Ukraine
The Ukrainian Government has set up their own site to accept donations to the war effort in Ukraine under three categories: Defense and Demining, Medical Aid, and Rebuild Ukraine. If you want to donate directly to the war effort, United24 is likely your best option.
Donating to Ukraine’s Military (11)
United24 is a great site to donate to Ukraine’s army and national defense, but there are others as well. All of these nonprofits claim to be working to help the Ukrainian army defeat Russia in this war:

Avoiding Scams while Donating to Ukraine
In May 2022 a BBC investigation found hundreds of scams related to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, where scammers try to convince potential donors that they’re a legitimate charity and then disappear once they’ve gotten their money. Don’t fall for it. Using lists like this can help you make more informed choices about who you donate to. All of the sites on this list are commonly found on other lists, and most are listed in Charity Navigator or Guidestar, which can help donors see where the money goes. The higher the score on Charity Navigator the better, generally, and all of the following sites have scores of 90 or higher on Charity Navigator:
Keep in mind, UNICEF, which is a legitimate nonprofit with millions of dollars in donations, has a Charity Navigator score of 89, so there are worthy sites beyond this list. If a site is not in Charity Navigator, Guidestar or a similar site that makes nonprofits accountable, look to see whether the site has been audited by Deloitte or a similar governing body to make sure you know that your money will be safe. There are, of course, sites that do not have these safeguards that are legitimate nonprofits, but it could reduce your risk of being scammed if you look for these signals1.
