SAWO’s 40 Years: The Long & Winding Road (2026)

Overview:
In 1986, a group of women in Sabah came together to challenge the familiar dismissal of women’s struggles: “itu biasa saja bah.” They formed SAWO, fighting for gender justice and women’s rights to live with safety and dignity. Over four decades, SAWO pushed for legal reform, built support services, trained institutions, and empowered women to enter politics. As its doors close, this film looks back at the movement’s victories, hardships, people and the struggle that continues.
